EcoPatch™
Easy to Install Native Wildflower Patches for Natural Landscapes
Download Product Spec Sheet >

EcoPatch provides a simple and effective way to establish clusters of native wildflowers within a landscape. Each EcoPatch is grown on a 35–40 mm soil-less growing medium reinforced with a biodegradable fibre base, creating a stable planting unit that can be easily handled and installed.

Sold in individual pieces measuring 27 cm × 53 cm (approximately 1.5 sq ft), EcoPatch allows designers and contractors to introduce native wildflower diversity into projects with precision and flexibility.

EcoPatch was developed to integrate naturally with NaturesTurf® installations but can also be used independently wherever clusters of wildflowers are desired within a naturalized planting design.

When EcoPatch™
Is the Right Choice

EcoPatch™ is specified when:

  • A project requires clusters of fully established native wildflowers rather than broad seed distribution.
  • Designers want to introduce diverse plant communities into seeded grasslands or customer landscapes.
  • Wildflower establishment from seed is slow or inconsistent.
  • Contractors want a simple planting format that can be cut, arranged, and installed quickly.

EcoPatch™ delivers targeted native plant diversity exactly where it is needed.

Designed for Fast
Installation

EcoPatch™ was designed for instant wildflower establishment:

  • EcoPatch is grown as a dense planting of native wildflower species within a 35–40 mm soil-less growing medium supported by a biodegradable coconut fibre base.
  • This format creates a stable planting unit that can be handled, transported, cut, and installed easily while maintaining plant integrity.
  • Once installed, the roots quickly establish into the surrounding soil while the coconut fibre base gradually biodegrades.
  • Shipped with root system fully intact for quick and vigourous establishment.

The result is a natural cluster of wildflowers that integrates into the surrounding plant community and supports long-term naturalization.

EcoPatch™ is grown as a dense cluster of native wildflowers within a 35–40 mm soil-less growing medium supported by a biodegradable  fibre base. Unlike planting individual plugs, these native plants are established together as a cohesive unit before installation.

This creates a stable patch that can be handled, transported, cut, and installed while maintaining plant integrity.

Once installed, the root systems expand into the surrounding soil as the fibre base gradually biodegrades, allowing the patch to integrate naturally with the surrounding vegetation. The result is a concentrated pocket of native wildflowers that establishes quickly and becomes a seedbank for long-term biodiversity within the landscape.

Common
applications
include:

  • Native grassland and prairie restoration
  • Municipal parks and naturalized landscapes
  • Pollinator habitat projects
  • Ecological landscaping and low-input gardens
  • NaturesTurf® projects requiring added wildflower diversity

Shipping

  • EcoPatch is produced in individual units measuring 27 cm × 53 cm (approximately 1.5 sq ft), making them easy to handle, arrange, and install on site.
  • EcoPatch is typically shipped on 48″ × 48″ pallets for efficient transport and handling.
  • As the plants mature and the patches firm up later in the growing season, pallets can accommodate up to 160 EcoPatch units per pallet (approximately 240 sq ft).
  • The biodegradable fibre base and growing medium hold the patches together during shipping, helping maintain plant integrity during transport and site handling.
  • Because EcoPatch is grown during the season for project use, shipping and delivery are typically coordinated to align with the project’s installation window.

Installation

  • EcoPatch can be installed as full coverage, individual clusters, or cut into smaller divisions depending on the desired planting design.
  • Soil preparation is simple: use existing garden soil, loam, or screened topsoil after removing visible weeds.
  • Lightly wet the soil prior to installation and apply a balanced organic fertilizer.
  • Cut EcoPatch as needed using a utility knife and ensure exposed edges are covered with soil.
  • Water deeply after installation and then every 2–3 days until plants have rooted into the soil.

Maintenance

  • Once established, EcoPatch requires minimal maintenance.
  • In garden settings, cut back the previous year’s growth in early spring.
  • Spring cutting allows seed heads to mature, supporting birds and insect habitat through the winter.
  • Fertilize at installation and optionally annually using a balanced controlled-release N-P-K fertilizer.

Real World Conditions

Formats, Availability & Procurement

EcoLogic works with
designers, contractors,
and municipalities to
align production with
project timelines.

  • EcoPatch™ is not a stock product and is typically grown specifically for each project and species mix.
  • EcoPatch™ blends can be customized using seed sourced from a specific site or selected for a project’s ecoregion.
  • Orders should typically be confirmed by the end of April to ensure production for that growing season.
  • Due to the growing format, EcoPatch has a limited implementation window, and planting during the same season it is grown is recommended.

"Such an Easy format to work with!"
